Requesting a loan

Musea Brugge's collection comprises over 80,000 unique works of art and heritage objects. It is our pleasure to display them to as many enthusiasts as possible. This is why make our works and objects available for loan for exhibitions in other museums and art institutions. A loan request is, of course, subject to a number of conditions.

Please note: temporary suspension of loans from Print Room

Musea Brugge is currently in the process of moving premises. All prints and works on paper from the Print Room will be registered, photographed and packed for the move to the new depot at BRUSK. Due to these preparations and the move, our works from the Print Room are temporarily unavailable for loan.

From 1 August 2025 to 30 March 2027, loans from the Print Room will not be available to external parties.

Requests received before 1 August 2025 will be processed. We will keep aside items already committed for loan so they can still be loaned out. We will begin processing loan requests for the Print Room again from 31 March 2027.

Step 1. Search our collection database

Are you looking for a specific work or object? Search our online collection database. Many items from our collection can be found there.

Can't find what you're looking for? View publications about our collections and exhibitions or contact us at musea@brugge.be.

Step 2. Submit your request

Send your request no later than 6 months before the item is required to Anne van Oosterwijk, Director of Collection at Musea Brugge, via anne.vanoosterwijk@brugge.be.

In order to thoroughly review the loan request, we ask that you provide as much detail in your request as possible along with full documentation. What should definitely be included in your request?

  • The exhibition title, period and location
  • The title, artist's name and inventory number of the work or object you wish to borrow
  • A general description of the exhibition and the added value of the works requested for the exhibition
  • A facility report and climate printout for each location and period of the loan from the previous year (as soon as possible)

After you submit a loan request, Musea Brugge may ask for additional information.

Step 3. We review your request

We will evaluate your request in terms of content and risk management. If the evaluation is favourable in both respects, we submit your request to the board. After their approval, we will send you a loan agreement with the terms and conditions.

Costs

The borrower shall bear all costs of the loan. These may include, but are not limited to: insurance, packaging, transport, transport by courier, condition monitoring, installation...

If you have to cancel a loan for good reason, Musea Brugge reserves the right to pass on the costs already incurred to the borrower. Cancellations should be sent by email to Anne van Oosterwijk, Director of Collection at Musea Brugge, via anne.vanoosterwijk@brugge.be.
