ZONDERWERK / CANCELLED
ZONDERWERK is a collaboration between sound artist Dijf Sanders and theatre-maker Linde Carrijn. They combine their talents to create narrative forms of music based on texture-oriented research, old samplers, tape machines, and acoustic and digital instruments. Especially for 'Mind the Artist', KAAP asked them to compose soundtracks for three artefacts that they were free to choose from the rich collection of the Groeningemuseum.

Washing Hands - Building Conversation
'Washing Hands' is a ritual, designed to bring physical contact back into the public space. The visitors, who may or may not know each other, will be asked to take up a position on either side of a transparent screen around a washbasin. By washing each other's hands with soap, the possibility for physical contact is re-created. The aim is to explore what impact social distancing and the lack of physical contact has had on the way in which we relate to each other. Have we become more distant or have we found different ways to remain connected?

What Remains of a Rembrandt Torn Into Four Equal Pieces and Flushed Down the Toilet - Simone Basani
This performance reveals different aspects of the museum space as a whole and brings to light hidden stories and unexpected connections. At the same time, the performers keep track of a shared event - the act and actions of the visit - and make spectators aware of their own presence and the choices made in the exhibition space.

Stillevens - Charlotte Bouckaert
By depicting the banal, Charlotte Bouckaert wishes to pay homage to the everyday objects that surround us. No matter how average or insignificant an object might seem, the wheels of the imagination start to turn when that object is used in playful manner. During 'Mind the Artist', Charlotte Bouckaert wants to explore the museum as an open workshop. She takes her workbench into a room full of 17th century still-life paintings. She allows herself to be inspired by these paintings and transforms them in different ways, until they truly begin to live.

Inter-face - Benjamin Vandewalle
With 'Inter-face', Benjamin Vandewalle creates a mini-theatre in which he is both actor and spectator. By using an interplay of lights, the theatre-maker presents us with a mirror in which to become aware of our 'self'. This installation makes it possible to look at the other as though he or she were you and to look at yourself as though you were the other.
