With its ‘Mind the Artist’ project, Musea Brugge gives various culture houses carte blanche to interact with its rich collection of artefacts in a multi-disciplinary way. The KAAP Arts Centre is the first partner to be offered such a platform.
Bear Bones, Lay Low
As Bear Bones, Lay Low, the Venezuelan Ernesto Gonzàlez takes us into the world of psychedelic electronica. His music has evolved from spontaneous bedroom noise/drone to synthjams with hints of library music, built up on intense rhythms, dub-effects and fierce freak-outs. With Bear Bones, Lay Low you will make a hypnotic trip to the darkest recesses of psychedelica. Even in the Sint-Janshospitaal, you can expect to make an unprecedented musical journey through the museum.

TicketsAafke Romeijn
Aafke Romeijn is a musician, journalist, author and outspoken but closely argued political voice on social media. With her raunchy beats, razor-sharp texts and analogue synthesizers, Aafke is now the uncrowned queen of Low Countries electropop. Imagine: 'Spinvis meets Daft Punk meets Peaches'. During this concert, she presents her new album 'Godzilla'. Aafke will also do an audiohack in the Sint-Janshospitaal.

TicketsESINAM
Esinam Dogbatse became fascinated by music at an early age, particularly the music of percussion instruments like the tama (drum). With the solo project ESINAM, she creates her own musical world, full of different rhythms, grooves, melodies and loops. At the request of KAAP, ESINAM has also made an audiohack, inspired by works in the Gruuthusemuseum.

TicketsZONDERWERK
ZONDERWERK is a collaboration between sound artist Dijf Sanders and theatre-maker Linde Carrijn. They combine their talents to create narrative forms of music based on texture-oriented research, old samplers, tape machines, and acoustic and digital instruments. Especially for 'Mind the Artist', KAAP asked them to compose soundtracks for three artefacts that they were free to choose from the rich collection of the Groeningemuseum.

TicketsThe Nightshift - Buren
In the video installation 'The Nightshift', which is part of the 'SPARE TIME WORK' theatre project, Buren combines the idea of an artistic disposition with the concept of motherhood. Between care and devotion, between nightshifts and early mornings, the clock is constantly ticking. This work can be viewed in the attic Diksmuidezolder of the old Sint-Janshospitaal, where, during the 15th century, one part was used as a storage space for the hospital, while another part served as accommodation for the sisters, until they moved to a nearby convent.

I lost my mom at the supermarket - Sien Vanmaele
For this fascinating theatre piece, Sien Vanmaele went to work in the discount supermarket where her mother has been employed as a cashier for years. Hoping to find her mum, herself and the little things that are such an important part of life, she instead found herself immersed in a strange and disorienting environment. 'I lost my mom at the supermarket' is an ode to the check-out women of the world. It is about the difference between those who are happy and those seeking happiness. About mummy's favourites, working people and mishap powder.
