Access to our locations

Most of the museum buildings are protected monuments. As a result, it is not always possible to alter them to meet the physical requirements of all our visitors. The following summary outlines the access possibilities and difficulties at our museum locations. The individual museum pages also give more information about what is and is not possible.

Accessible locations

The Groeningemuseum, Gezellehuis (House Gezelle), O.L.V.-kerk Museum (Museum of the Church of Our Lady), O.L.V. ter Potterie (Museum of Our Lady of the Pottery), the pharmacy and the Museum Sint-Janshospitaal (Museum St John’s Hospital) and the Stadhuis (City Hall) are all accessible for wheelchair users. Our personnel will be happy to assist you during your visit.

Less accessible locations

The Brugse Vrije (Liberty of Bruges) is reached via three steps. The aldermen’s hall is on the first floor.

The Volkskundemuseum (Folk Museum) is largely accessible for visitors with a physical limitation, with the exception of the exhibition room on the first floor, which has no wheelchair access.

The Belfort (Belfry), Gruuthusemuseum and Sint-Janshuismolen (Sint-Janshuis Mill) can only be reached via steps and are therefore less suitable for visitors with a physical limitation.
