Museums make a unique contribution to society. They are the stewards of our collective heritage. It is their task to manage this heritage carefully and to make it accessible to a wide public. Not only in the here and now, but also for generations to come. So that the past can help to explain the present and the future. This means that heritage is timeless, continually relevant and of crucial importance.

Aranda postkaart new
Musea Brugge acquired this painting in 2018 thanks to an anonymous donation. It concerns the portrait of François de Aranda (+1663), presented as the head of the Bruges Guild of St George, attributed to the Bruges Baroque painter Jacob of East I (1603-1671).

However, museum collections need to be looked after very carefully and this is increasingly expensive. Museums have been underfunded for decades and are becoming ever more dependent on their own resources. Their continued existence is thanks to the support of people like you.

As a generous culture-lover, a fervent museum-goer or a passionate collector, you can make a personal contribution to the excellence of our museums and help to improve the artistic experience they give to visitors. Without the assistance of the Friends, Musea Brugge would not be able to exist in its current form. Since its foundation in 1958, the Friends Association of Musea Brugge has made possible the purchase of some two hundred works of art, the completion of numerous essential restorations, and the development of a range of educational and other activities that have attracted ever greater public interest.

Help us to maintain our heritage in the best possible condition. Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a difference. Together, we can ensure that the very best things from our past are protected and preserved for future generations.
