The Death of Belisarius’ Wife' (1817) is Joseph-François Kinsoen's only preserved history piece. Today it shines among other masterpieces in the museum. But that was not always the case. Kinsoen could not get the work sold at the time. So he donated it to the Bruges Academy via a letter in 1836. That letter still exists, and is preserved today in the Bruges City Archives. Charlotte Virgils (registrar MB) and Dieter Viaene (heritage archivist City Archives) talk about how Kinsoen's forgotten work made it to Masterpiece in the Groeninge Museum.
