The young artist Tille Pepermans has created a number of new drawings and a mural for this exhibition in the Arentshuis.

Within the framework of Mind the Artist, the arts festival organised by Musea Brugge, Tille Pepermans (°1993, Machelen) presents her new exhibition 'ZW 20-21' in the Arentshuis. The artist has made a number of new drawings especially for the exhibition, which in part have been inspired by works contained in the print room collection and partly by images in her own visual archive.

Using this material, Tille Pepermans has created a galaxy of different worlds, each one fascinating in its own right. She has combined old fragments of Pieter Bruegel I with new motifs, buildings and stories. For this, she primarily used a 6B graphite pencil, drawing on smooth paper. The most salient feature of her narrative pieces is the interplay of light and shade. She composes busy and lively scenes, interspersed with sharp and rhythmic contrasts. Pepermans regularly steps away from the two-dimensional plane of a sheet of paper, operating in situ in the space where she is exhibiting by adding new works directly to walls and windows.

Especially for Mind the Artist, the artist has accepted a new challenge: she has devised a series of drawings that will be projected by video in the various rooms of the Arentshuis. In this way, she will connect her graphic two-dimensional world with the contemporary world of film, video and the dark halls of cinema. Pepermans invites the visitor to stop, pause and reflect on her detailed drawings, with their layered stories and depictions.
