At the start of the 18th century, Queen Anne's England is at war with France. The queen is not in the best of health, so that Lady Sarah rules the country on her behalf. One day, a new servant, Abigail, arrives in the royal palace. She hopes to regain her lost aristocratic status, but Lady Sarah soon sees through her plan. A costume drama in which hidden agendas, jealousy and the lust for power dominate the two women's battle to become Queen Anne's favourite.
