An Verbruggen

Senior Registrar

An Verbruggen obtained a Master's degree in Conservation – Restoration (University of Antwerp, 2005), specialising in stone and stone-like materials, followed by a Master's degree in Archaeology (Ghent University, 2009) and a course in Heritage Conservation (VSPW Ghent, 2011). This multidisciplinary background gives her unique expertise in conservation and management, with knowledge of both archaeological and (art) historical contexts.

Following several years' experience as a restorer and archaeologist, An joined Musea Brugge in 2012. She worked as registrar and repository manager at the Volkskundemuseum for ten years and has been a senior registrar since May 2023.

In this role, she monitors the quality of all collection data, ensuring that registration, documentation, and image management are carried out correctly, completely, and sustainably. She supports colleagues in registration processes, supervises BIS interns and junior registrars, and participates in strategic projects such as the migration to a new collection management system and digital access to collections. She is also responsible for all photography assignments.

Her goal is to provide reliable and accessible collection information as a basis for research, public outreach and international collaboration. Accurate registration is key to knowledge.

An is the person to contact for questions about collection registration, guidelines and standards in collection management, migration to Museumplus, image management and photography requests.
