Musea Brugge has just bought the 'Finger' series by Chinese conceptual artist, political activist and philosopher Ai Weiwei.
It is a set of four face masks with different designs of a raised middle finger, an iconic, recurring gesture in the artist's work. They are screen prints on polypropylene mouth masks.
The masks have been issued in an edition of 10,000 and are currently on sale via eBay. The proceeds of the sale will go to the human rights organisations Human Rights Watch, Refugees International and Médecins Sans Frontières.
Alderman of Culture Nico Blontrock adds: "It's not just about the face masks themselves - an important symbol and testimony of this far-reaching Corona crisis - but also about the artistic mark of this multifaceted, socially committed artist".
