The reliquary of Saint Ursula: an utensil?

Today, the reliquary of Saint Ursula stands glittering in a display case at the Museum Saint John's Hospital. But people used to look at the shrine completely differently. In the Middle Ages, the beautiful Ursula shrine was an utensil, a chest with valuable contents. What did the shrine preserve? And why was Saint Ursula so important to the hospital? Our Curator Social History Geert Souvereyns talks about it with Jeroen Reyniers of the KIK (Royal Institute for Art Heritage).
