Jutta Aendenboom

Collection curator for paper heritage

Jutta Aendenboom obtained a Master's degree in Art History and National Archaeology in 1987. As an archaeologist, career opportunities were scarce. Archaeological preliminary research for construction projects was not yet mandatory. While looking for a permanent job, she became a driving instructor. This role allowed her to utilise her pedagogical skills. Meanwhile, she took courses in library and information science, heritage conservation, and part-time art education, specialising in painting.

In 2018, she obtained a certificate in paper restoration. She had caught the bug, and it never left her. She took on paper restoration as a side job. Working alongside a colleague who was also a paper and book restorer furthered her experience in this field. An internship at Musea Brugge in 2019–2020, working as a registrar in the print room, introduced her to the world of museums.

A year later, she began working as collection curator for paper heritage.

She carries out conservation work and ensures the proper preservation of works in the print room depot, as well as their presentation in various Musea Brugge locations.
