Joyce Klein Koerkamp

Collection Research Coach

Joyce Klein Koerkamp obtained a Bachelor's degree in Art History from Radboud University Nijmegen in 2015, followed by a Master's degree in Art History with a curatorial training programme from the University of Groningen in 2017. As part of her Master's programme, she completed an internship at Musea Brugge, assisting with preparations for the exhibition “Forgotten Masters: Pieter Pourbus and Bruges Painting from 1525 to 1625". Following graduation, she became the Slifka Foundation Interdisciplinary Fellow at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. There, she researched the early Dutch paintings in the collection alongside the curator and restorer.

After working as an independent researcher and conference organiser, she returned to Musea Brugge in 2023. Initially, she worked as a technical imaging expert and project coordinator for the Decoding Memling research project. From July 2025, she has taken on the role of collection research coach. In her current position, she is responsible for coordinating and promoting research within Musea Brugge, as well as being the main point of contact for external researchers focusing on the collection.

She specialises in technical imaging and other forms of scientific research. She also has a particular interest in 15th and 16th-century painting from the Southern Netherlands, more specifically in the life and work of Ambrosius Benson.
