Geert Souvereyns is a historian who obtained a Master's degree in Modern History from KU Leuven (1993–1997), specialising in medieval cultural history. He then completed postgraduate degrees in Information and Library Science and Cultural Management at the University of Antwerp.
Following research projects at KADOC in Leuven, the Hasselt State Archives, and the University of Antwerp, Geert coordinated the Flemish Art Collection — a partnership between three art history museums in Flanders — for five years (2004–2009). This provided him with insight into the various areas of museum operations.
Since late 2009, he has worked at Musea Brugge, initially as coordinator of the Bruges Heritage Network (BEN). In this role, he brought people and organisations together to develop new heritage stories about Bruges. One of the achievements is Handmade in Bruges, an initiative that bridges the gap between Bruges' traditional craft heritage and contemporary makers in the city.
Between 2012 and 2023, Geert was part of the project teams responsible for renovating the museum presentations at the Belfry, the Gruuthuse Museum, the Town Hall and the St John's Hospital Museum. He also coordinated projects and events at the Museum of Everyday Life Heritage. Since 2021, he has been curator specialising in everyday life heritage. In this role, he is developing a new participatory collection policy focusing on everyday life after 1945. In terms of research, Geert will focus on the relationship between tourism, heritage and image formation in the coming years.
