The Sint-Janshospitaal plays a leading part in the fantastic music documentary 'Bruges en musique' on Arte. Watch below two fragments with beautiful footage of the interior and exterior of the historic hospital, set to the music of Henry Purcell (17th century) and Guillaume Dufay (15th century).
After King's College en musiques and Le Louvre en musiques, Arte made the Sint-Janshospitaal, founded in 1150, the beating heart of its artistic and musical tour of Bruges. In the documentary, you will hear a selection of works by composers from the 15th century to the present, from Johannes Ockeghem to Arvo Pärt. In addition, you can also enjoy a concert by the Kitgut Quartet, performed in the chapel of the oldest medieval hospital in Europe, where the Triptych of Saint John the Baptist and Saint John the Evangelist (1479), a masterpiece of the Flemish Primitive Hans Memling, is located (see video).
