Enrich the view of Bruges

Listen

Are you a Bruges expert? Would you like to share your knowledge? If so, you might be interested in participating in the 'Enrich the view of Bruges' project.

'Enrich the view of Bruges' began in September 2021. As part of the project, Musea Brugge, Stadsarchief Brugge and the Public Library collaborated to catalogue thousands of historic images and make them available online. We would now like to call on you to help us. Because together, we know more than we do alone. Perhaps your neighbourhood, street or house is among them!

We are reviewing Bruges cityscapes, as well as portraits, postcards, flags, interiors and prayer cards. All of the material has a connection to Bruges, a Bruges artist, or is stored in Bruges. There are two ongoing projects, but here we would like to focus on the Musea Brugge project, for which we are still looking for volunteers.

Project: ‘A Look at Bruges Artists and Collectors.’

This selection showcases the vibrant "mannekensbladen" and "centsprenten" amassed by the renowned Bruges collector, Guillaume Michiels. The collection is complemented by sketches and drawings by Michiels himself, including his many views of Bruges streets. Compare them with the drawings by Emile Rommelaere (1873-1961), a teacher of Michiels, who also liked to draw inspiration from Bruges. Finally, let yourself be surprised by the versatile collection of the Bruges printer and lithographer Auguste Ancot (1846-1896). His collection is once again featured extensively, this time with a focus not only on the prints and printed matter, but also on the drawings he collected.

This project has been completed.
