You have reached the end of your museum tour. This attic has only been part of the tour since the recent restoration work. This is the last time you will encounter Louis de Gruuthuse, the medieval nobleman, and his motto: Plus est en vous. What’s more, this room is another project by the architect Louis Delacenserie, who sought inspiration in the neo-Gothic.
Did you notice that the floor in this room is tiled again? The tiles are red and black, laid in an artistic pattern. The red and black colours are repeated in the beams supporting the ceiling. If you want, you can feel one of the beams. Each beam features the words: Plus est en vous, in white, Gothic letters, of course. The rest of the woodwork is also painted black and red.
At this point we introduce you to the museum's main character: Bruges. The tall windows look out on to the city and its many stories and figures we learned about during our tour. We hope you will now walk the streets of Bruges and view them differently, with far greater insight.
In this attic the museum also engages in dialogue with the community of Bruges and with visitors to the city. Being a contemporary museum our aim is to play a role in society. Catch your breath, let the experience of your visit sink in, or explore what you have encountered in more detail. Anything is possible here.
It has been a pleasure guiding you throughout your visit. We would love to welcome you back one day - here, or to a different Musea Brugge location, such as Saint John’s Hospital or the Groeninge Museum.
We look forward to seeing you again! And don't forget: Plus est en vous!
