This tapestry has rightly been given a place
on the Flemish Community’s list of masterpieces.
It is part of a series of eight devoted
to the ‘artes liberales’, the seven liberal arts.
Each of the seven tapestries represents one
of the arts. They are all united in the eighth
tapestry – the example you see here.
Five women and two men represent the
seven liberal arts. They were part of school
curricula and university courses for
centuries.
