Miracle tapestries

1630

O.OTP0160c.XVII_03

These remarkable tapestries illustrate the many miracles which are attributed to Our Lady of the Pottery, a miracle statue that stands in the church. The design is based on stories from a miracle book from the start of the 16th century which, exceptionally, is still kept in the church. Miracles and favours were often recorded in order to increase the popularity of the saint in question or to preserve them for posterity. The tapestries were probably woven around 1630, but we don’t know by whom.
