The reliquary of Saint Ursula, Hans Memling

This well-known and very rare reliquary was made specially for St John’s Hospital and includes relics of various saints, including Saint Ursula. The legend of Ursula on the shrine reads as a graphic novel from the year 1489. Full of colour, light, and gold, it is a feast for the eye. The shrine is a combination of architecture, sculpture, and painting. It was only on religious festive days, such as the name day of Ursula on 11 October, that the shrine was taken out or carried in a procession.
