On Thursday, 26 May (Ascension Day) our museums will be closed in the afternoon.

Stain glass window of the Archangel Michael

This winged dragon slayer is the Holy Archangel Michael. Impassively he curbs the multi-head dragon, which dangerously thrusts its claw onto his shield. In the story of the Apocalypse Michael is the leader of God’s angels and the conqueror of evil. Just like the stain glass window of St Georges, this one belonged to the late medieval guild chapel of painters and glazers. They might have been part of a bigger collection created around 1500 in a studio in Bruges.
